KID SELECTA
Dj Kid Selecta was born in 1978 in Lisbon. Music has always been part of his teens, party with his friends, he would always take cassettes, CDs, stereo and guitar to arouse enthusiasm. At Secondary School and the University which he attended, he was always involved in music events, such as local radio or organized parties.
From 1999, as a guitarist, he was part of a punk rock band in Portuguese, the SK6 (www.myspace.com/SK6). In this project, two albums were recorded and several live concerts were given around the country and even in Spain. In addition, he was also the sound operator for two theater companies in Lisbon: Robertos & Companhia, and Teatro da Garagem. In his youth, he was also bassist of a band of hard core and singer of a punk rock cover band who gave several concerts at high schools and at Rookie, a disco in Bairro Alto, well known at that time in Lisbon.
In 2001 Dj Kid Selecta, also known as John John, began “rolling” the first vinyl discs in the wave of Reggae music. As he learned from the first DJs or Selectas of Portugal, people called him the "Kid." Hence the stage name Kid Selecta, the kid who would select good music.
The set mixes done by Kid Selecta were twice launched on Rádio Oxigénio in the midnight program "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life".
Inspired by the wild nature (waves, forests and mountains) and extreme sports (skateboarding and snowboarding), he was taken to the "feeling" of the surf... His musical contribution travels on this wave! He is sponsored by and works for the Waves & Woods store, a firm which, even by its name, has much to do with their influences.
For Kid Selecta, life without music no longer makes sense. The endless adventure in discovering new sounds was a constant learning that helped him evolve as an artist of Dj. "Let it flow", letting the music flow naturally in tune with your mind. In search of the perfect beat for each show, he adapts himself to various styles of music, from Funky, Reggae, Hip Hop, Remixes & Mashups of Classics, Ragga Jungle, Drum n' Bass and Tech House. In his shows, it has been seen the delirium of many who hear him. He has performed in clubs, parties and festivals, from north to south of Portugal, some countries in Europe and other parts of the world.
In 2013, one of his dreams came true: the dream of traveling to Goa India, where he expanded his sound through the East.
Apart from all this musical vibration, Kid Selecta always leaves a positive message wherever he goes: "Live the Life you Love, Love the Life you Live"! Music is a way of being and of being well with life... It is through music that Kid Selecta expresses his artistic freedom!
